The graphics are amazing, camera is glitchy to the point where you can get stuck. I could sit there and just look at the amazing graphics on this - however for those that want to play. The so called RTS\/RPG mix... wow. Terrible RTS, it plays like a mobile phone RTS game, and I think the RPG gives up too much to try and make it some kind of RTS.So anyway, they should have just made this an RPG, it would have been beautiful. With the exception of the giant white line painted on the ground forcing me down a very direct path. Everything appears chosen, no options, just go down the damn path.. do it... need more free world adventure, multiple paths broken up, etc. at the moment it feels like one path and one alone. Can't recommend except to go look at the graphics at 90% off. As a crawler\/rpg its a great game, great story and amazing graphics. As an RTS its in the top 3 worst ive ever played. There is just too much going on at once that you lose track of champions, units, and other played objects. The resource system is absolutely le garbage, and over complicated for the sort of AI you go against at Normal+. The enemy having a seemingly endless supply of both resources and units and as soon as a main army is moved from one base, the enemy attacks in three times the units you just slew. Enemies are dmg sponges and all these combined made it an absolutely terrible and boring experience for me. 2\/10 as an RTS, 8\/10 as an rpg\/dungeon crawler.. Good old times. Tiara`s Blessing!. Can't beleive I waited for a sale to get this gem, 120% worth its full price. Graphics are awesome, no bug, no lag and the depth of the story... just wow. Just finished the main story and I feel empty not knowing what do to next. I want to thanks the devs for giving me such an amazing experience and i cant wait for a sequel. thanks again. Only 6 hours in at this point and I'm drawn in by the story. The graphics are wonderful and the village building before major encounters is amazing compared to just run in and kill style games. It's my first SpellForce game and I love it. If you're into Divinity and Warcraft, this is a combo if the two. I love Divinity I and II and Pillars of Eternity and Tyranny. This game stacks up to those. I definately recommend this game so far. I will update with more hours.. RTS campaign that is not just "build base, destroy enemies". Has actual adventure elements to it.Can be janky at times, but it is Spellforce Euro jank.. I really enjoy that aspect of focusing on the RPG aspect of the game with out really having to focus on the RTS aspect to win your battles on the campaign game. As to focusing on both. It gets really crazy with how many keys your are hitting and how many things you feel like you have to keep track of. So if you are simple minded I don't think this game is for you. Then again there is a easy mode so maybe it can work for you.. I'm only giving this game a recommendation because it was clearly a passion project, and filled a serious void I didn't know I had since the days of Balder's Gate. I'll keep this as succinct as I can, but it's worth mentioning a few things. Please note, I have quite a few hours in the game and I did beat it, including all optional quests. Here's the breakdown, with more details to follow:Pros- Graphics are excellent- Gear has a distinct look on characters though often replicated\/reskinned- Voice acting, in general, is extremely high quality- It's long. It's really, really long.- RTS & RPG is unique and engaging- Story is good - it's your typical protagonist\/antagonist scenario, but there are a handful of surprises- Customization is a nice touch and truly lets you manage your party- A lot of "auto-attack" skills if you're not a huge fan of micromanagement (I'm not)- A lot of manual skills if you're not a huge fan of automation (I am)Cons:- Bugs that get progressively worse as the game goes on- Bugs: Voice acting lines often do not match text- Bugs: Triggered events are janky at times- Bugs: Quest markers often disappear on huge maps, leaving you to wander around like an idiot- Bugs: Quests are occasionally vague, especially towards the end- Severe balance issues (details below)- RTS is a neat concept, but it's definitely my least "favorite" RTS game in recent years- Heroes are hilariously overpowered with a few simple decisions that make armies pointless- Guard towers are garbage - tower defense is tedious- Resource management is a bit of a waiting game, and a grind- Expansion is unnecessary in most cases- Auras are OP af- I got it on sale for 20 bucks, but it should always be 20 bucks, or 30 at mostOne of my biggest issues with this game were some of the bugs severely crippling the immersion and occasionally making me waste my f'ing time backtracking and blindly searching maps. The quest markers randomly vanishing were frustrating as hell. Some people will tell you to just reload the game, or re-enter the map (or both) but c'mon man. This game has been out for a while now, and quest markers are kind of important. The heroes are insanely OP. I built my party primarily with autoattacks and such because I personally do not like heavy micromanagement. I'll spoiler this part out because I don't want to give you the "formula to easy-mode" but here is what I ran with the entire time in short detail. Also, spoiler spoiler; it's hardly complicated. This isn't a massive party guide. You can figure out what I did in like, the first paragraph and build your party to essentially kill everything.MC, Isgrimm, Angar, and Uram. Sword and board with all 4 of them. Focused primarily on auto-attack skills and rarely, if ever, actually used focus-skills with the exception of whirlwind and a few AOEs when I got impatient (otherwise I'd still win, just slower). Ran auras, including attack, defense, crit, and regen. Easy as hell. I literally attack-moved on the map towards the objective and made a sandwich, came back to a victory screen.Thing is, I didn't build this for that purpose. I wanted to make 4 badass tanks with some passive healing and they turned into a god damn murder squad. Auras are crazy powerful, and the regen isn't some dull passive. Even strong enemies, elites, and bosses could barely put a dent in the regen speed. There are also creatures that can effectively block all of your skills, including your auras, but focus on them and you're good (they're few and far between). In the early game, you will not have Angar (he shows up around the last quarter of the game). Substitute with Rohen.Normally I wouldn't put any kind of "strategy guide" in a review, but I added that piece in spoiler tags because it's necessary to understand how incredibly easily I put together a party that made RTS essentially obsolete and pointless. That kind of sucked, since there was a lot of potential there. Although admittedly I did enjoy watching my death squad beat the game for me. Automation is kinda fun.Second to last, the ending was just blah. There's a ton of lore, documents (collectibles), optional dialog and backstories, but the ending was basically the equivalent of a CONGRATULATIONS. YOU WIN! screen you'd find in some old SNES game without a budget. The bugs got worse, the ending felt rushed as hell, and instead of watching this epic epilogue you get about 5 minutes with no real closure or sense of accomplishment. I felt really cheated. On a final note, something happens in the last 10 minutes of the game that I don't want to spoil, so I'll tag it and also trying to be vague (I doubt it'll ruin the experience for you). One of the characters, namely one of my favorites in my party, straight up f'ing DIES during the boss fight in a scripted segment. It's never, ever mentioned after you beat the boss. Nice. You can kind of see the game slowly decay, so to speak, and I can almost picture six empty Monster drinks on a devs desk at 2am as he cranks out the final chunk of code with a gun to his head. Deadlines were evident. Dev sprints were evident. This game starts polished and engaging then ends in a beta-mess that effectively makes the player realize they're not in the world of Eo, trying to save it, but sitting at their desk and play testing a beta they paid 50 bucks for. Apart from that, the game is well done and worth playing, but I wouldn't say at the current price point. Wait till it goes on sale, then definitely pick it up.. Although I've never played the SpellForce series before I like games like this. There's enough rpg as opposed to rts in case you aren't a big fan of rts games or if you're new to them, so it plays almost like an arpg game, with fully voiced dialogue and in a comfy fantasy world. 5\/5. Totally worth its price. I played the game in May 2019 and it was bug free, never crashed and was overall awesome. The story is solid, the characters you can have in your party are diverse, the voice acting is top notch. The build diversity is very balanced. You can play the game like an ARPG if you want, or you can RTS build and use "crafted" units if you prefer that style. If you go the ARPG route, I highly suggest making your character a healer, focus on willpower, white magic, cooldown reduction, spell cost reduction and then sit back and heal your 3 party members. The dwarf is hands down a the best tank once you upgrade his armor thru quests\/items. That leaves you with 2 other party members to use as you want. I also suggest the Orc as a fireball tossing mage with pumped up intelligence and firespells. You can't really go wrong though, you can crutch on healing pots if you had to and just run 4 DPS. Game is awesome.
